Digital Innovations

I experienced a multitude of digital tools to make stories more interesting online while working as a digital editor at Vox Magazine. Below is a sample of some digital tools I used.

Audio/Visual slideshow

I covered the Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival in Hartsburg, Missouri. To best cover the event, I decided to combine audio and pictures I took at the festival so the viewers could feel like they experienced the event as well. This differed from the standard story I could’ve wrote about the event. I created the video with Adobe Premiere.

Timeline JS

Timeline JS is a great tool to display information online. This is one example of how I transferred a print story to the Vox Magazine website. This interactive tool allows for readers to click through the timeline as well as gives the option for the creator to add images and videos. To view the full timeline, click here.

Storify allows for the creator to include text, pictures and videos to tell a story that mirrors a flip book. The above story covers Roots N Blues N BBQ, an annual music festival in Columbia, Missouri. I used the digital tool to tell the story of the different food vendors at the festival. Quizzes are popular and interactive tools for readers. With this in mind, some stories work well to give information and interact with the people wanting the information. Here is an example of one quiz I created for the digital content on Vox Magazine.
